Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 With Focus on Agentic AI
Qualcomm has announced two new flagship smartphone platforms, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, at its Snapdragon Summit 2026. The new chipsets are designed for the next generation of premium Android smartphones, with a strong focus on on-device artificial intelligence, gaming, photography and connectivity.
Both platforms are built using a 2nm process and feature Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU architecture, redesigned Adreno graphics and an upgraded Hexagon NPU. Qualcomm says the new platforms are designed to support more personalised and responsive “agentic AI” experiences, allowing smartphones to process and adapt to user context directly on the device.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6: Key Highlights
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 sits at the top of Qualcomm’s new mobile lineup. Its Oryon CPU can reach speeds of up to 5GHz, while Qualcomm claims a 13 percent CPU performance improvement compared with the previous generation. The Adreno GPU delivers a claimed 44 percent performance increase along with up to 40 percent better power efficiency.
The chipset also introduces Adreno Neural Fusion, which uses AI processing to enhance graphics and gaming experiences. Qualcomm is targeting longer gaming sessions, richer visuals and improved performance through the combination of AI and GPU processing.
For photography and video, the Extreme variant includes Qualcomm’s Elite Color Engine, Intelligent Pixel Control and Advanced Professional Video support. It can support 8K video at 60fps and 4K video at 240fps, while Qualcomm also highlights support for triple 64-megapixel camera systems.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6
The standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 shares several technologies with the Extreme model but is positioned for a broader range of premium smartphones. It also uses the 2nm process, Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU and Hexagon NPU, while supporting AI-powered features, gaming improvements and advanced imaging capabilities.
Connectivity is another major focus. Both platforms support Qualcomm’s X105 5G modem-RF system, with peak download speeds of up to 14.8Gbps, while FastConnect 8800 enables next-generation Wi-Fi connectivity.
Smartphones Coming With the New Snapdragon Chips
Qualcomm says smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will arrive from brands including HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, vivo and Xiaomi. The first devices are expected to bring the new chipsets to flagship Android phones in the coming months.
