Microsoft Surface Mouse Returns After 10 Years With Built-In Haptics and Customizable Button

Microsoft has brought back its Surface Mouse with a redesigned model, nearly a decade after the original accessory debuted alongside the Surface Studio in 2016. The new mouse arrives with a softer design, built-in haptic feedback and a configurable action button aimed at giving Windows users more control over everyday tasks.

The new Surface Mouse is part of Microsoft’s latest Surface hardware announcement, which also includes refreshed Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch models powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Plus processor.

New Surface Mouse Gets Built-In Haptics

The biggest change is the addition of built-in haptic feedback. Microsoft has placed a small vibration motor inside the mouse that can provide tactile feedback when users perform certain actions in Windows.

According to Windows Central, the haptics can respond to actions such as snapping an application to the side of the screen or dragging files between windows. The feature is designed to make these interactions feel more responsive without adding audible clicks or other distractions.

Microsoft is also giving the mouse a soft-touch finish across the main area where users hold it. The left and right buttons are designed to provide tactile clicks while keeping noise relatively low.

Configurable Action Button

Another new feature is a dedicated action button. Users can configure the button to launch an application or trigger a shortcut through the Microsoft Surface app.

This could make frequently used Windows functions easier to access without reaching for the keyboard. The button also gives users an additional way to customize the mouse around their workflow.

Price and Availability

Microsoft has priced the new Surface Mouse at $79.99. It will be available to purchase from October 13, 2026. The mouse is also offered in a new black color alongside the updated design.

The new model marks Microsoft’s return to the standalone Surface Mouse category after a long gap. Its combination of haptic feedback, quieter buttons and customizable controls gives the decade-old product line a modern update.

For users who spend much of their day working in Windows, the haptic system and programmable button are the two features likely to make the biggest difference in everyday use.
