Google is rolling out a major update for Google Photos, adding new AI-powered editing, organization and creative features across Android and iOS. The update introduces a new Redact tool, vintage-inspired Moods, 15 new Remix templates, an expanded AI Wardrobe feature and deeper integration with Gemini Spark.
Google Photos Gets New Redact Tool
The upgraded Markup tool is now rolling out globally on Android with a new Redact pen designed to hide sensitive information in photos. Users can blur or mosaic private details and adjust the pen thickness for more precise editing. Google has also added new fonts for text overlays.
The feature could be useful for users who want to share screenshots or documents while hiding information such as addresses, licence plates or other private details.
Moods Adds AI Vintage Photo Styles
Google Photos is also introducing Moods, an AI-assisted editing feature that applies visual styles inspired by older cameras and film formats. Available globally on Android, Moods includes looks inspired by 35mm film and 2000s digicams, with sliders allowing users to control the intensity of the effect.
Google is also adding 15 new Remix templates for creating customised images, including red-carpet-style edits, birthday cards and photo booth-inspired designs. Remix is available on Android and iOS in select countries for users aged 18 and above.
AI Wardrobe Expands to India
Google is expanding its AI Wardrobe feature to eligible Android and iOS users in the US, India and Brazil. The feature automatically identifies clothing in photos and creates a digital wardrobe that users can organise, mix and match, and use for virtual styling.
Meanwhile, eligible Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US can use Photos in Gemini Spark to select family photos, improve brightness and prepare images for sharing through a single prompt.
Google says these features are rolling out based on device, region and account eligibility.
