OpenAI has expanded its GPT-6 model family with the launch of GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, two new models designed to bring advanced AI capabilities to a wider range of professional and everyday workloads. The company says the models build on the technology introduced with GPT-6 Astra while focusing on improved cost efficiency, coding, factuality and computer-use capabilities.
According to OpenAI, GPT-6 Sol and Luna were trained using methods similar to GPT-6 Astra. The company says improvements in inference and caching allow the new models to deliver their capabilities at significantly lower prices, making them more practical for developers and businesses running AI applications at scale.
GPT-6 Sol and Luna Pricing
OpenAI has reduced the API pricing for both models by 50 percent compared with the promotional pricing of their GPT-5.6 predecessors.
GPT-6 Sol is priced at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, compared with $4 and $20 for GPT-5.6 Sol. GPT-6 Luna costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens, down from $0.20 and $1.20 respectively for GPT-5.6 Luna.
Improvements in Coding and Professional Work
OpenAI says GPT-6 Sol is designed for complex professional workflows, with higher usage limits and lower costs giving users more room to iterate. On the company’s cited AutomationBench evaluation, GPT-6 Sol at xhigh effort recorded a 33.2 percent score at a reported cost of $0.27 per task. GPT-6 Luna also showed improvements over its predecessor on the benchmark.
Coding is another major focus. OpenAI reports that GPT-6 Sol delivers substantial gains over GPT-5.6 Sol on its FrontierCode evaluation. On DeepSWE, GPT-6 Sol reached 68.8 percent at maximum effort, while GPT-6 Luna recorded 66.6 percent. OpenAI also highlights lower costs per task compared with several competing models in these evaluations.
Better Computer Use and Factuality
The new models also target AI agents that can interact with software and complete multi-step computer workflows. OpenAI reports that GPT-6 Sol achieved a 60.5 percent score on OSWorld 2.0 offline at xhigh effort.
The company also says GPT-6 Sol makes about half as many mistakes as its predecessor on its internal factuality evaluation, while GPT-6 Luna shows substantial improvements at higher effort levels.
Availability
GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are available through the OpenAI API as gpt-6-sol and gpt-6-luna. OpenAI says the models are also available in ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users, while Free and Go users can access GPT-6 Luna through the desktop app. The company says the models are being gradually rolled out to ChatGPT.
