Samsung has officially started rolling out One UI 9, bringing a new set of Galaxy AI tools, personalization features, security improvements and everyday usability upgrades to compatible Galaxy devices.
The rollout began on September 16, 2026, with the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra. One UI 9 first debuted on Samsung’s latest foldables, including the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8, before expanding to additional devices.
Based on Android 17, One UI 9 focuses heavily on making Galaxy AI more contextual while giving users more control over how information and features appear across the phone.
What Is One UI 9?
One UI 9 is Samsung’s latest version of its Android-based user interface for Galaxy devices. It builds on the company’s previous One UI releases with expanded Galaxy AI capabilities, improved customization, new productivity tools and additional privacy and security features.
Rather than completely changing the Galaxy interface, Samsung is focusing on making everyday interactions more contextual. Features such as Now Nudge and enhanced Now Brief are designed to surface useful information at the right moment, while tools such as My FanCam and Creative Studio target content creation.
One UI 9 Key Features
1. My FanCam
One of the more interesting additions is My FanCam, which can automatically track a selected person in a recorded video and keep them centered in the frame.
Instead of manually cropping or reframing footage, the feature can intelligently adjust the composition as the subject moves. This could be particularly useful for recording performances, sports or family events.
Samsung notes that My FanCam requires a Samsung Account and that results and availability can vary depending on the video.
2. Smarter Now Brief
Samsung is also making Now Brief more customizable.
One UI 9 introduces Generative and Editable Cards that let users select and create information cards for areas such as health, weather and video. The goal is to make the daily briefing more relevant instead of presenting the same type of information to everyone.
Because Now Brief can use personal information that users have consented to share, Samsung says availability and functionality can vary by region, language, device and application.
3. Now Nudge
Now Nudge is designed to provide context-aware suggestions while users are already performing tasks.
For example, during a text conversation about making plans, it can help surface relevant reservation information or save a shared location without requiring users to leave the conversation.
This is part of Samsung’s broader move toward contextual AI, where the phone attempts to understand what the user is doing rather than simply waiting for a direct command.
4. Creative Studio Improvements
Creative Studio is getting smarter suggestions in One UI 9.
Samsung says the feature can suggest image-generation ideas based on upcoming events. A birthday, for example, could trigger a suggestion for creating a themed image or greeting.
This puts generative AI closer to everyday activities rather than treating it purely as a standalone image-generation tool.
5. Better Translation
The Interpreter feature gains a new Thread View that makes translated conversations easier to follow by providing access to earlier exchanges.
Samsung is also improving translation speed in Conversation Mode. With compatible Galaxy Buds, playback can be quicker as well.
Language availability varies by market, language and device, and some languages may require a downloadable language pack.
6. Improved Document Scanning
One UI 9 also improves Samsung’s document scanning experience.
The updated Document Scan feature is designed to handle difficult materials such as curved book pages and folded corners with less manual adjustment. Compatible large-screen Galaxy devices also receive optimized views.
For people who regularly scan receipts, notes, documents or textbook pages, this is a practical improvement rather than a flashy AI feature.
7. More Useful Voice Recorder Summaries
Samsung’s Voice Recorder now presents summaries in a more structured format, including elements such as headings and tables.
That should make longer recordings easier to review when users don’t want to listen through an entire recording again.
One UI 9 Security and Privacy Features
Samsung is also putting more emphasis on security.
Security Brief brings security-related information into Now Brief, including alerts involving malware, unknown-source applications and unnecessary permissions. The idea is to make potential security problems easier to notice.
Privacy Alerts use on-device AI to identify potential privacy risks, including unnecessary background permission access. Samsung says the feature is supported on a range of recent Galaxy smartphones and tablets, although availability varies by device and region.
One UI 9 also expands Scam Detection to additional markets and languages. Samsung specifically lists India, Japan and Canada among the markets receiving the feature.
Which Galaxy Devices Get One UI 9?
The One UI 9 rollout is gradual rather than a single worldwide release.
Samsung’s September 16 announcement confirmed availability beginning with the Galaxy S26 series, following the initial rollout to the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8 and Z Flip8. The company says other compatible Galaxy devices will receive the update progressively.
Samsung had previously expanded the One UI 9 beta to devices including the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, Galaxy S25 series and Galaxy S25 FE in selected markets such as India, Korea, the U.K. and the U.S.
Importantly, not every One UI 9 feature will necessarily be available on every compatible Galaxy device. Samsung states that features can differ according to device model, country, language, carrier and application.
Should You Update to One UI 9?
For compatible Galaxy owners, One UI 9 is less about a dramatic visual redesign and more about adding useful intelligence throughout the existing Galaxy experience.
The biggest changes revolve around contextual Galaxy AI, video creation, personalization, translation, device care, privacy and security. Features such as My FanCam and improved scanning are practical additions, while Now Brief and Now Nudge show Samsung’s larger strategy of making the phone more proactive.
The rollout is gradual, so if One UI 9 is not yet available on your Galaxy device, that does not necessarily mean it is unsupported. Availability depends on Samsung’s rollout schedule as well as the specific model and market.
