Samsung Galaxy S26 FE Review: A Good Phone Facing a Tough Price Problem

By Tech Crew

The Samsung Galaxy S26 FE follows a familiar formula: take the flagship Galaxy experience, remove a few expensive extras and sell it for less. This year, though, Samsung has made the equation more complicated.

The S26 FE gets a new Exynos 2500 processor, One UI 9, Galaxy AI features, a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a 4,900mAh battery and a versatile triple-camera system. It also promises seven generations of Android OS upgrades and seven years of security updates.

On paper, that’s a strong package. In practice, the biggest question isn’t whether the Galaxy S26 FE is good. It is whether the improvements justify its higher price.

In India, Samsung has priced the 8GB/256GB Galaxy S26 FE at ₹79,999, with sales starting September 18, 2026. Launch offers include up to ₹8,000 in upgrade benefits or ₹7,000 bank cashback, depending on the option selected.

Samsung confirms the Indian model’s 8GB/256GB configuration, along with the 6.7-inch display, Exynos 2500 and 4,900mAh battery.

Design: Still feels like a premium Galaxy

Samsung hasn’t reinvented the FE design, but that’s not necessarily a problem.

The Galaxy S26 FE has an aluminium frame, glass front and back, and a slim 7.4mm body weighing 193 grams. SamMobile’s review found the construction reassuringly solid, although the glossy rear attracts fingerprints and makes the phone look less premium than a matte finish might.

The camera arrangement has also been revised to fit more closely with the S26 family.

The phone carries an IP68 rating, meaning it is designed to withstand dust and freshwater immersion under specified laboratory conditions.

In the hand, the S26 FE feels much more like a premium Samsung phone than a typical midrange device. That’s an important part of the FE proposition.

Display: One of its strongest features

The 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel remains one of the phone’s highlights.

You get a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,900 nits of brightness, making scrolling smooth and outdoor visibility strong. Samsung also uses an FHD+ resolution rather than pushing the panel into a more demanding QHD+ configuration.

SamMobile found the screen delivers strong contrast, deep blacks and good visibility in bright conditions.

There is, however, a distinction between the S26 FE display and Samsung’s more expensive flagship panels. The FE doesn’t get the same level of display technology as the regular S26 models, and it lacks LTPO technology.

For watching Netflix, gaming, browsing or editing photos, though, the display remains a very good fit.

Performance: Exynos 2500 does the job

The Galaxy S26 FE is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2500, manufactured on a 3nm process.

In everyday use, performance is comfortably in flagship territory. SamMobile found the phone capable of handling demanding games and AI features, although occasional stutters—such as when exiting the camera—were noticeable. The phone can also become warm during demanding workloads.

WIRED similarly found the processor upgrade provides some additional efficiency and performance, although it considered the new chip one of the few meaningful hardware changes over the previous generation.

For typical buyers, that’s probably the right way to look at it: the S26 FE is fast enough that performance shouldn’t be a concern.

Gamers should have plenty of headroom, although sustained heavy workloads can push the slim chassis toward higher temperatures.

Camera: Versatile rather than revolutionary

Samsung gives the S26 FE a three-camera setup:

  • 50MP main camera with OIS
  • 12MP ultrawide
  • 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom
  • 12MP front camera

The main camera is the star. SamMobile found it capable of detailed images with a wide dynamic range and natural colours in daylight. Low-light performance is decent, although noise and sharpening can become more noticeable.

The 3x telephoto camera is particularly useful. Samsung has retained optical zoom rather than relying entirely on digital cropping, giving the phone greater flexibility for portraits, travel photography and distant subjects.

Samsung has also added features such as My FanCam, which can automatically track a selected person in video, and Super Steady with Horizontal Lock for more stable footage. Photo Assist adds natural-language editing capabilities.

Video recording is capable, but there are limitations. SamMobile notes that 4K/60fps recording is restricted to the main and selfie cameras; switching between all three rear cameras at 60fps requires dropping to Full HD.

Galaxy AI and One UI 9

Software is one of the Galaxy S26 FE’s biggest advantages.

The phone launches with Android 17 and One UI 9, rather than receiving the software later through an update. Samsung has also brought several newer Galaxy AI capabilities to the FE model.

The updated Now Brief provides personalised information through briefing cards, while Circle to Search can now search for multiple items at once. Samsung also includes Photo Assist and other AI-powered tools.

There is one strange omission: SamMobile found that Call Brief, one of One UI 9’s new Galaxy AI features, isn’t available on the S26 FE even though it works on the Galaxy Z Flip 7, which uses the same Exynos 2500 chip.

The phone also doesn’t support wired Samsung DeX because its USB-C port has been downgraded to USB 2.0. Wireless DeX remains available.

That’s a frustrating regression for anyone who regularly connects a phone to a monitor or transfers large files.

Battery life: Reliable all-day performance

The S26 FE retains the 4,900mAh battery from its predecessor.

That’s not an exciting specification upgrade, but the more efficient Exynos 2500 helps the phone deliver respectable endurance. SamMobile managed roughly a full day with mixed use, including gaming and video streaming, while WIRED similarly found enough battery for most days with some charge remaining at bedtime.

Charging is more impressive.

The phone supports 45W wired charging, with Samsung claiming up to 69% in around 30 minutes using a compatible 45W adapter. Wireless charging is supported at 15W.

The wireless charging speed is hardly class-leading, but having the option is useful.

Seven years of software support

Long-term support is one area where Samsung deserves attention.

The Galaxy S26 FE is promised seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. Because it ships with Android 17, Samsung says the device can receive updates through Android 24.

That gives the phone a potentially long useful life, especially for buyers who tend to keep their smartphones for four or five years.

It’s also one of the strongest reasons to consider the S26 FE over older discounted Samsung models.

The biggest problem: price

This is where the Galaxy S26 FE becomes difficult to assess.

Samsung has priced the Indian 8GB/256GB model at ₹79,999.

At that price, you’re no longer comparing the S26 FE only with affordable flagship alternatives. You’re entering territory where Samsung’s own higher-end models, older flagships at discounts and competing premium phones become relevant.

WIRED’s review reached a similar conclusion in the US, where the S26 FE costs $700 compared with $650 for the previous generation. It described the phone as good in isolation but difficult to justify given the limited hardware changes.

SamMobile likewise describes the S26 FE as a good phone that becomes less compelling because of its higher price.

The launch offers make the situation more interesting in India. Samsung is offering either an upgrade bonus, bank cashback or selected EMI benefits, but these options are mutually exclusive.

So the effective purchase price can be lower than ₹79,999 depending on your payment method and whether you have an eligible device to exchange.

Samsung Galaxy S26 FE: Pros and cons

What works

  • Premium, slim construction
  • Excellent 6.7-inch AMOLED display
  • Fast Exynos 2500 performance
  • Versatile triple-camera setup
  • Useful 3x optical zoom
  • Strong Galaxy AI integration
  • Android 17 and One UI 9 out of the box
  • Seven generations of OS upgrades
  • Seven years of security updates
  • 45W wired charging
  • IP68 resistance

What doesn’t

  • Higher price than the previous FE generation
  • Few major hardware changes
  • USB-C limited to USB 2.0
  • No wired DeX or DisplayPort output
  • 15W wireless charging is slow
  • Some Galaxy AI features are missing
  • Third-party pre-installed apps add unnecessary clutter

Samsung Galaxy S26 FE review: Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy S26 FE is a good smartphone caught in an awkward price bracket.

It delivers the things that matter most in everyday use: a bright 120Hz AMOLED display, fast performance, capable cameras, useful AI features, reliable battery life and unusually long software support.

The problem is that Samsung hasn’t changed enough from the previous generation to make the higher price feel like a clear generational leap. Both SamMobile and WIRED reached broadly similar conclusions after reviewing the phone.

For Indian buyers, the ₹79,999 launch price makes discounts and launch offers particularly important. At a meaningful reduction, the S26 FE becomes much easier to justify. At full price, shoppers should also compare it with discounted flagship phones before buying.

If you’re upgrading from an older Galaxy phone and want a large display, modern Galaxy AI and long-term software support, the S26 FE has plenty to offer.

Just don’t buy it expecting a dramatically upgraded FE experience. This is an evolution of Samsung’s formula, not a reinvention of it.
