Amazon Alexa Tablets Launched With Google Play Store, Alexa+ AI and Premium Hardware
Amazon has introduced a new generation of Android tablets under the Amazon Alexa Tablet branding, marking a major change in its tablet strategy. The new lineup includes the Amazon Alexa Tablet 8, Alexa Tablet 11 and flagship Alexa Tablet 12 Pro. All three models combine updated hardware with Alexa+ artificial intelligence and full access to the Google Play Store.
The launch is significant because Amazon’s older Fire tablets relied on Fire OS and the company’s own app store, limiting access to many popular Google applications. The new tablets run Android and support apps such as YouTube, Gmail, Google Docs and Netflix, alongside Amazon services including Prime Video, Kindle, Audible and Amazon Music.
Amazon Alexa Tablets: Price and Availability
Amazon has announced the following starting prices for its new tablet lineup in the US:
- Amazon Alexa Tablet 8: Starts at $229.99.
- Amazon Alexa Tablet 11: Starts at $329.99.
- Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro: Starts at $499.99.
The tablets are available to order in selected international markets, with shipping scheduled to begin on October 14, 2026, in the US, Mexico and Canada. Availability in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain is scheduled to start on October 19.
Amazon has not announced Indian prices or availability for the new lineup.
Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro Specifications
The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is the most powerful device in the new lineup and is designed for users who want a tablet for productivity, entertainment and reading.

It features a 12-inch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 120Hz refresh rate. The taller screen format provides additional vertical space for reading documents, browsing websites and working with applications.
Powering the tablet is MediaTek’s Dimensity 8400 chipset. Amazon says its CPU is three times faster and its GPU nine times faster than the corresponding components in the older Fire Max 11.
The standard model includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, with a starting price of $499.99. Amazon also offers a Nanomatte display version, which starts at $549.99. A higher configuration with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is available for $679.99.
The tablet features an aluminium unibody design measuring just 6.5mm thick and weighing approximately 550g. Its USB-C port supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 data speeds of up to 5Gbps and DisplayPort video output, making it more versatile than a typical entry-level tablet.
For productivity, the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro supports a dedicated keyboard accessory that connects directly to the device. It also works with Amazon’s Alexa Tablet Pro Pen, which uses the USI 2.0 standard, supports 4,096 pressure levels and detects tilt.
The keyboard costs $149.99, while the stylus is priced at $89.99. These accessories are sold separately.
Nanomatte Display Targets Readers
One of the more distinctive options on the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is its Nanomatte display, designed to reduce reflections and improve visibility in different lighting conditions.
The special glass uses glare-resistant etching, offering a more comfortable experience for reading and working outdoors or near bright windows.
Amazon has also included a dedicated reading experience that reduces distractions by silencing notifications and lowering blue-light output. Users can select different display themes, including natural colours, a softer paper-like appearance and grayscale.
According to Amazon, the tablet delivers up to 16 hours of video playback, while the dedicated reading mode can extend battery life to as much as 20 hours. Actual endurance will depend on usage, settings and other conditions.
Amazon Alexa Tablet 11 Features

The Amazon Alexa Tablet 11 sits in the middle of the lineup and offers an 11-inch display aimed at everyday entertainment, browsing and productivity.
Unlike the Pro model’s 120Hz panel, the standard 11-inch tablet uses a 90Hz display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. It also has two speakers rather than the Pro model’s quad-speaker system with Dolby Atmos support.
The device uses the MediaTek MT8189 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM. Storage options include 64GB for $329.99 and 128GB for $379.99.
Amazon claims up to 15 hours of video playback. The tablet has a USB-C 2.0 port, but it does not support the video output available on the Pro model.
For users who mainly stream videos, read books, browse the internet and use productivity apps, the Alexa Tablet 11 could offer a more affordable alternative to the flagship model.
Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 Offers a Compact Design
The Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 is the smallest and most affordable device in the new family. Despite its name, it features an 8.7-inch display with a resolution of 1,340 × 800 pixels.
The tablet uses the MediaTek MT8189 processor and is available in configurations with 4GB or 8GB of RAM. Storage options include 64GB, 128GB and, depending on the configuration, additional memory choices.
The 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model starts at $229.99, while the 4GB RAM and 128GB version costs $279.99. An 8GB RAM and 128GB configuration is priced at $299.99.
Weighing approximately 329g, the smaller tablet is designed for portability. Amazon claims up to 14 hours of video playback, and charging takes place through a USB-C 2.0 port.
It is the most suitable option for users who prioritise a compact form factor and basic everyday tasks over high-resolution visuals or demanding applications.
Alexa+ AI Comes Built Into Every Tablet
Artificial intelligence is a central part of Amazon’s new tablet strategy. All three devices include Alexa+, the company’s conversational AI assistant.
Unlike older voice assistants that generally required users to begin commands with a wake phrase, Alexa+ supports more natural conversations. This is intended to make it easier to ask follow-up questions, request information and interact with Amazon’s services.
The tablets also support an optional On-Screen Intelligence feature that allows Alexa+ to understand what’s displayed on the screen and provide more relevant assistance.
However, this feature is disabled by default and must be enabled manually. Users who prefer not to share screen context with the assistant can leave it turned off.
Google Play Store Changes the Amazon Tablet Experience
Official Google Play Store access may be the most important improvement in the new lineup.
Earlier Fire tablets were known for their low prices, but the restricted app ecosystem could be a drawback for users who depended on Google services. The new tablets address that limitation by providing access to millions of Android apps through Google’s official store.
This makes the devices more practical for students, families and professionals who need applications such as Gmail, YouTube, Google Docs and other mainstream Android software.
Amazon is also moving the hardware upmarket with aluminium construction, faster processors and improved displays. The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, in particular, is positioned as a device that can handle reading, multitasking and productivity alongside entertainment.
One detail to consider is advertising: the standard Alexa Tablet 8 and Alexa Tablet 11 configurations include lock-screen ads, while the Pro model is ad-free. Amazon offers an option to remove ads from the smaller tablets for an additional $20.
Amazon’s Tablet Strategy Enters a New Phase

The Amazon Alexa Tablet lineup represents a substantial departure from the company’s traditional budget-focused Fire tablets. With Android, Google Play Store access, Alexa+ and upgraded hardware, Amazon is attempting to make its tablets more competitive with mainstream Android devices.
The Alexa Tablet 8 targets buyers who want an affordable, compact device, while the Alexa Tablet 11 offers a larger screen and more memory. The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro stands out with its faster chipset, 120Hz display, Nanomatte option and support for a dedicated keyboard and stylus.
The higher prices may make the new tablets less appealing to buyers looking for the cheapest possible device. However, broader app compatibility and improved hardware could make them more useful for everyday tasks.
For now, the lineup is confirmed for selected international markets, with Indian pricing and availability yet to be announced.
