Amazon has introduced a new generation of Android tablets under the Amazon Alexa Tablet branding, marking a major change in its tablet strategy. The new lineup includes the Amazon…

Amazon has introduced two new tablets for children, expanding its family-focused device lineup with updated hardware, built-in parental controls and AI-powered creative tools. The Amazon Kids Tablet 8 and Amazon Kids Tablet 11 are designed for different age groups, offering a choice between a compact tablet for younger children and a larger model for learning, drawing and entertainment. Both tablets run Android and include a kid-proof case, a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+ and parental controls through Amazon's Parent Dashboard. The company has also introduced parent-managed access to Google Play, giving families more flexibility when choosing apps for their children. Amazon Kids Tablet 8 and Kids Tablet 11: Price and Availability The Amazon Kids Tablet 8 starts at $229.99, while the Amazon Kids Tablet 11 starts at $329.99 in the US. Both models are available for preorder, with shipping scheduled to begin on October 14, 2026, in the US, Mexico, Canada and Japan. The tablets will arrive in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain on October 19. Amazon has not announced Indian pricing or availability as part of this launch announcement. The two models are intended for children aged three and above, with different configurations tailored to their needs. Versions for children aged three and older include a soft bumper case for added protection, while variants aimed at children aged six and above come with a slimmer protective case. The cases are available with character-themed designs featuring popular franchises such as Paw Patrol, Barbie and SpongeBob SquarePants. This approach combines a more durable design with an appearance aimed at younger users. Amazon Kids Tablet 8 Specifications The Amazon Kids Tablet 8 features an 8.7-inch display and is designed for portability. It comes with 64GB of internal storage and offers up to 14 hours of video playback, according to Amazon. The smaller screen makes it suitable for watching videos, reading digital books, playing age-appropriate games and using educational applications. The storage capacity also allows children to keep supported content on the device for offline use. Amazon has positioned this model as an everyday tablet for younger children, with the protective case and parental controls forming an important part of the overall package. The company has not disclosed all consumer-facing hardware specifications in its launch announcement, so details such as display resolution and processor performance should be checked against the official device specifications before purchase. Amazon Kids Tablet 11 Features a 2.5K Display The larger Amazon Kids Tablet 11 is aimed at children who need more screen space for entertainment, creative activities and schoolwork. It features an 11-inch 2.5K display, along with 8GB of RAM. Amazon also confirms stylus support, making the tablet suitable for drawing, handwriting practice and other activities that benefit from pen input. The larger display could make reading, watching educational videos and working with homework applications more comfortable. Additional memory should also help the device handle more demanding applications, although actual performance will depend on the software and workload. The Kids Tablet 11 starts at $329.99, placing it above the smaller model. Buyers will need to decide whether the larger screen, additional memory and stylus support justify the price difference for their child's intended use. AI-Powered Storybuilder Creates Picture Books One of the most notable additions is Storybuilder, an AI-powered creative experience designed specifically for children. The feature allows children to describe characters, story ideas and plot twists using their voices. Storybuilder can then turn those ideas into illustrated picture books and comic books that children can share with their parents. Rather than using AI solely as a question-and-answer assistant, Amazon is positioning the feature as a way to encourage storytelling and imagination. Children can experiment with different characters and settings, helping them develop their own narratives through an interactive experience. Amazon says Storybuilder includes safeguards intended to keep the experience age-appropriate. As with any AI feature designed for children, parental supervision and an understanding of how the feature works remain important. Amazon Kids+ Subscription Included Every Amazon Kids Tablet includes one year of Amazon Kids+, a subscription service that offers curated books, videos, games and educational applications for children. The content library includes popular brands such as Disney, Nickelodeon, LEGO and Sesame Street. Amazon says the experience is tailored to different age groups, allowing younger children to explore simpler activities while older children can discover more advanced reading material and educational tools. After the included year, Kids+ costs $7.99 per month for Amazon Prime members and $8.99 per month for non-Prime members. Families should account for this recurring cost when comparing the tablets with alternatives that do not require an ongoing content subscription. Google Play Access and Parental Controls Another important change is the addition of parent-managed Google Play access. Parents can approve app downloads and manage which applications their children are allowed to use, expanding the available software beyond the Kids+ catalogue. The Amazon Kids Parent Dashboard comes preinstalled on the tablets and can also be accessed through a free application for iOS and Android devices. It allows parents to manage screen time, configure content filters and review activity remotely. These controls are particularly useful for families who want to give children access to a wider selection of applications without leaving every download or usage decision to the child. Amazon is also presenting the tablets as devices that can grow alongside their users. A child might begin with drawing apps, games and animated shows before gradually moving toward reading tools, educational resources and homework applications. Amazon Kids Tablets: Should You Consider Them? The new Amazon Kids Tablet lineup combines standard Android tablet functionality with child-focused software, protective accessories and parental management tools. The Amazon Kids Tablet 8 is the more affordable choice for younger users who primarily need a portable device for videos, reading and simple games. The Amazon Kids Tablet 11 is better suited to families looking for a larger display, more memory and stylus support for creative activities or homework. Storybuilder adds an interesting AI component, while Google Play access provides more flexibility than a device limited to a single curated app catalogue. However, families should also consider the ongoing Kids+ subscription cost after the first year and review the available parental controls before handing a connected device to a child. For now, the announced prices and launch dates apply to selected international markets. Amazon has not confirmed whether these new Kids Tablets will launch in India.
